Gauteng’s very own Wine Route

The Vaal Wine Route will be celebrating its 20th year this year.

Traditionally, there are 2 events that run back to back including a full day of wine tasting at the Vaal River Wine Expo that is hosted on the Vaal River at Stonehaven. 

The Vaal Wine Route opening times for wine tastings are 12 midday to 6pm (last table booking at 5pm as the wine tasting lasts an hour) and is hosted at various venues on and around the Vaal River area.

A designated area is set up at each venue for wine tasting.

The Vaal River Meander Wine Route is a very well-priced wine treat to beat the winter blues, as well as being able to do this at a quirky variation of different Venues on or around the banks of the Vaal River.

You will pay for Wine Tasting at each Venue you visit, with a selection of different Wine Farms at each and every venue. Each Venue has 8 wines to taste for R80.00

The Wine Route is perfect for wine connoisseurs, but also for those who are not confident regarding wines. It is a relaxed and pleasant well-priced outing, where one can learn to appreciate the wonderful wines South Africa boats – all in a welcoming environment. All of the venues will be selling wines at cost plus 10%, so Visitors can capitalize on getting wines you really enjoy at very good prices.

Gauteng’s most popular Wine Route discerns itself from all the other Wine Routes in South Africa, in that it has a record number of ways in which you can enjoy this winter wine feast. Be it by house boat, luxury cruiser, wine route taxi, speedboat, water-taxi or in your own car – the Vaal River Meander Wine Route has more ways to enjoy it than any other Wine Route in South Africa.

The different venues where you can enjoy all these tastings, are so diverse and offer contrasting experiences as do their wines; with the single common thread of each presenting great South African wines.

You might select a venue where you can enjoy eloquently sipping wine at a classy hotel; or in front of a roaring fireplace in a cosy pub; or wine tasting with a bit of trying your hand at Lady Luck; or what enjoy wine tasting in a quirky Pub that oozes fun and character; savouring wine as you cruise aboard a luxurious Cruiser down Millionaire’s Mile; or wine tasting at sunset on a Boathouse overlooking the Vaal; or in a character Wine Cellar.

There are also optional extras to add to your experience, such as enjoying a Cruising Wine Tasting Luncheon aboard a luxurious Cruiser; Special Overnight Weekend Breaks; spend a weekend aboard a House Boat as you throw anchor and moor at the different venues along the Vaal River for wine tasting; spend the weekend at a Lodge or Hotel along the Vaal while you enjoy the wine and food pairing by water taxi or self-drive or enjoy special spa treatments packages put on to celebrate this winter treat.

No entry fee – simply pay the tasting fee at the Venues of your choice. Please note that certain Venues have different trading and kitchen hours. The last table booking for wine tasting is 17h00 as the wine tasting experience is 1 hour.
